I remember the "privileges" of being in 7th grade. Mary Alice Sullivan and I used to run the 'ditto' machine in the office and man the switchboard when the secretary was at lunch. The switchboard was (obviously) the old kind where you plugged in wires to send calls.
In the winter, we also used to go down to kindergarten class at noontime to help the teacher suit up the morning kindergarten so that the afternoon class could come in. All the kids had snowpants and boots and mittens and hats...
Finally, I was a traffic in 6th and 7th grades. In 6th grade, I was stationed on the bridge. That was cold in the winter. In the 7th grade, I manned a door where I guess the kids in certain classrooms waited for the bell to ring.
